How Can You Tell if You are Meditating Correctly?

Today I read that the elderly zen Buddhist monk and proponent of mindfulness for many decades, Thich Nhat Hanh, is currently in a coma after experiencing a brain hemorrhage in November 2014. An update on his health can be found at: Update on Thich Nhat Hanh's Health 13 December 2014.

Here is a snippet of the wisdom of Thich Nhat Hanh -
Consider the question How do you know if you have been practising meditation effectively? Is it whether you manage to focus without distraction? Is it whether you have kept a good posture? Is it what your teacher says?

According to Thich Nhat Hanh in his book The Sun My Heart the answer is none of these. It is that "peace and happiness are the guides for measuring the fruit of practice" and "if meditation is not pleasant for you, you are not practising correctly."

Mindfulness is an approach and an attitude of mind and heart which involves calmness and happiness.

By their fruits we shall know them.
