If you find yourself getting into situations where you act or speak impulsively in ways which you later regret then try the Help or Hinder Test. When you notice any familiar signs that you are about to react impulsively (e.g. you are starting to feel angry or anxious or stressed or nervous in a situation) then before you act in your usual impulsive way ask yourself: What is the outcome I want and is acting/speaking in this way likely to Help or Hinder progress towards that? If the answer is that it will likely help then ok go ahead, but if the answer is it will likely hinder then try a different approach (perhaps the opposite of your usual instinctive response) and see if that is more constructive in enabling progress towards your desired outcome.
