Should Mobile Phones be Banned in the Classroom?

Recent research suggests that where pupils are banned from having mobile phones in the classroom there exam results improve significantly. The improvement is particularly noticeable in low-achieving and low-income students. To find out more, click on the link below:

This is not particularly surprising since it seems obvious that if your attention is focused on your mobile phone it's going to be diverted from your classwork. So unless someone can come up with an exceptional reason why they should have their mobile phone in the classroom it seems that banning them might be a sensible step. Whether schools could cope with the classroom revolt that might ensue is another question...
