Today is National No Smoking Day in the UK.
To help someone give up smoking it is important to understand the process of change that people often go through when they are trying to give up an addiction or problematic habit such as smoking, excessive alcohol use or drug use.
Here is a link to an article I wrote a few years ago where I explained the famous model of change proposed initially by the psychologists James Prochaska and Carlo DiClemente. In the article I give ideas for how life coaches and others can use it to help facilitate someone's progress in breaking a difficult habit.
