In the 1970s the book The Miracle of Mindfulness written by the Buddhist Monk Thich Nhat Hanh became a bestseller, bringing ideas about what is involved in living a mindful life to the awareness of many people in 'the Western World' who were previously unfamiliar with it. As I write in February 2015 mindfulness has become again a fashionable approach for helping people deal with stress and anxiety although sometimes it is spoken about as if it were an invention of the 21st Century!
