Does Positive Thinking Work?

I have always been a believer in balanced thinking techniques rather than positive thinking techniques which can in my view be unrealistic. Below is a link to an article which cites research supporting my views and suggesting that people who fantasize positively either do worse in their attempts to achieve wishes or merely do the same as people who don't.

All is not lost however! The article then goes on to describe a process called mental contrasting which helps you to balance out the positive thinking in a way that can help you, following your positive fantasy about the future by visualizing obstacles that stand in the way then planning how to deal with them.
