The Habit of Excellence

Many years ago I studied philosophy. Recently, I came across the following quote from Aristotle which I think may have come from his Nicomachean Ethics but if anyone knows differently, please correct me!

"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit."
- Aristotle [Source:  www.inspirational-quotes.info/motivational-quotes.html]

I would agree that in order to achieve excellence you need to work or practise regularly at whatever it is you aspire to achieve.

Sometimes this can be daunting, therefore it is important to make your regular 'practice' aims realistic. If you have decided to go to the gym, maybe once per week, or perhaps twice, would be a realistic goal if you have not done it before. If you want to change a common behaviour pattern - for example in the way you react to other people, then maybe set yourself a goal of doing the alternative desired behaviour once per day. Setting realistic goals that you can keep maintain for a sensible (perhaps indefinite) period is a good start to creating habits of excellence.

Good luck!
