Dealing with the Unexpected

Life is unpredictable. Events will happen from time to time that can throw us off balance. Here are 7 tips to try to follow to help if you are caught unawares by an unexpected potentially problematic event:

1. Remember that the unexpected does happen, it can't be avoided.
2. Don't panic.
3. Focus on important essentials in your life.
4. Assess the unexpected problem that has arisen and take reasonable steps to manage it.
5. If there are parts of the situation that are beyond your control, acknowledge that.
6. Even in the face of the unexpected difficulty remember those parts of your life that are going well or that you are happy for.
7. Try to smile when you can, to release the tension.
