Fear and Hope

You might think that hope is the opposite of fear. After all, fear is when you are worried about something that might happen whereas hope is when you are optimistic about what might happen.

Fair enough, but is hope the antidote to fear. In the short term, possibly yes, because if you replace your fear by hope then it may help you not to be paralysed by fear and to act. But what if your original fears turn out to be realized, then you may just see your hope as misguided or over-optimistic?

The alternative antidote to fear is I think acceptance: Accepting that your fear might be realized, even if it is unlikely to be, and realizing that even if it is you will be able to cope. That is another way of helping to overcome paralysis from fear.
